SnipLang is a translator, dictionary and writing assistant for iPhone, iPad and Mac. This policy explains what data we process, why, who helps us, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it.
Contact. Questions about this policy or your data: hello@sniplang.com.
Account. Email address, and your name if you sign in with Apple or Google. A user ID. Legal basis: contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Text you send to SnipLang. Words, sentences and images you translate, look up or check: in the app, through the system Translate menu, through the keyboard, or on Mac (including text you select or that the Mac app reads with your Accessibility permission). We send it to our server to produce the result, then discard it. Results are cached in memory on our server for up to 1 hour. Legal basis: contract.
Library and history. Words and translations you save or recently looked up. Stored on your device and, if you are signed in, in our cloud database to sync between devices. Legal basis: contract.
Writing memory (Pro). We keep a limited buffer of sentences you write with the SnipLang checker (up to 300 per language, each deleted after 90 days), your feedback on suggestions (which ones you accept or skip), and a style profile derived from them, for example tone, typical phrases and corrections you prefer to skip. We use it only to tune your own checks. Links, email addresses, phone numbers and other long numbers are removed before a sentence is stored. You can view the profile, delete single rules, turn learning off and clear everything in Settings. Legal basis: legitimate interest in personalising the service you use (Art. 6(1)(f)); you can object at any time by turning writing memory off.
Usage limits and activity. How many translations and checks you make, your free allowance, an installation ID and a device token. Used to apply limits, prevent abuse and show your activity stats. Legal basis: contract and legitimate interest in preventing abuse.
Purchases. Subscriptions in the app are processed by Apple. On Mac (direct download) and on the web they are processed by Stripe. We receive your subscription status, product and transaction ID, never your full card details. Legal basis: contract and legal obligation (accounting).
Diagnostics. Crash reports and performance data (device model, OS version, app version, stack traces). For a small share of sessions we record a replay of the screen with all text masked. When an error happens, the report may include a screenshot of the screen, which can contain text shown in the app. Legal basis: legitimate interest in a stable app.
Analytics. Events about how the app is used (for example, opened a screen, started a trial), linked to a random ID, not to the content of your text. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
Advertising measurement. We use the Meta and TikTok SDKs to measure which ads lead to installs and purchases. They receive app events such as install, trial start and purchase, never the content of your text. Your advertising identifier (IDFA) is used only if you allow tracking in the iOS prompt. When you subscribe on the web, we send a hashed (SHA-256) email address and the purchase amount to Meta and TikTok so we can measure our ads. We never send the text you translate or write to advertising partners. Legal basis: consent for the advertising identifier; legitimate interest in measuring our advertising for web purchases.
Support. If you write to us from the app or by email, we process your message, email address and the technical details you include. Legal basis: legitimate interest in answering you.
Website. sniplang.com uses cookies and similar technologies for analytics (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity session recordings) and advertising measurement (Meta, TikTok). In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland they turn on only after you accept them in the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
We do not intentionally process special categories of data (health, political opinions and so on). Text you choose to translate may contain them. We treat all text as confidential and do not analyse it for these categories.
SnipLang uses large language models from various AI providers to translate, explain, check and continue text. We use their business APIs: under their terms, data sent through these APIs is not used to train their models. Some providers may keep API data for up to 30 days to detect abuse. Results are generated by AI and can be wrong.
We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf under data processing agreements:

You can ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your data, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect processing before withdrawal).
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Polish supervisory authority, Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych (uodo.gov.pl), or the authority in your country.
The keyboard works without Full Access. With Full Access enabled, sentences you type may be sent to our server for grammar checks, corrections and continuation suggestions, and are processed as described in section 1. Text from password, one-time code and card number fields is never read. Keyboard text is not used for advertising and is not shared outside the providers listed above. If you have Pro, sentences checked from the keyboard are added to writing memory unless you turned writing memory off.
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by our hosting providers. Access to production data is limited to the developer. Requests to our server are verified with Firebase App Check.
SnipLang is not intended for children. You may use SnipLang only if you are old enough to consent to the processing of your personal data yourself, without a parent or guardian, under the law of your country: at least 16 in the European Union and the United Kingdom, at least 13 in the United States, or a higher age if your local law requires it. If you believe a child below this age has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
We will update the date at the top when this policy changes. For significant changes, we will notify you in the app or by email.
